First of all, let me say “Pura Vida!” Costa Rica is a beautiful place and I know you will fall in love with the people, wildlife, scenery and of course waves. I made my first trip there in the early 90’s and have returned many times. I have surfed all kinds of great waves around the world, challenged myself, met great people, and still I keep going back! Costa Rica is a special place that will nourish your heart and mind, give you the chance to relax and recharge your batteries and most important, satisfy your appetite for surf!

There a few basic things you will want to consider when planning a Costa Rica Surf Trip. First, how long are you going to stay? If you’re only staying 10 days, then you should consider picking your spot, staying put and make one or two day trips. You don’t want to spend half your trip driving and waiting for ferries and flat tires. Staying a month? Now you’re talking… pick a basic route to follow with a few of the key spots on the way and loop back to your starting point. Or, just play it all by ear, follow the swell, and allow 2 days travel at the end to get back to the airport in Liberia or San José. Whatever you decide, planning a few basic things before you go is smart.

Make sure you have a valid passport and drivers license. Duh. Go get your Hepatitus A&B shots up to date (read more about Vaccinations for Costa Rica). Pack some basic medical supplies and bring any prescription meds you take regularly or even occasionally, for example, I always bring Naproxen for my lower back any time I travel.

The surf on the Pacific side is biggest during rainy season (May-October, while during dry season (November-April) offshore winds prevail and waves are smaller. Hurricane season (May-September) on the Caribbean side is the best time to go if you’re after huge heavy waves, and also December-March when Atlantic storms create powerful swells for Costa Rica’s Caribbean Surf Spots, home to the standout surf spot Salsa Brava, near the port city of Limon.

The range of Cost Rica Surf set-ups varies from sand bottom high performance beach breaks like Playa Hermosa to volcanic rock reefs like Playa Negra, capable of holding triple overhead waves, and heavy coral reef breaks like Isla Uvita, perfect for expert surfers looking for a rush. Beginners can take Surf Lessons or sign up for Surf Camps, concentrated around the mellower beaches in Mal Pais, Nosara, Jaco Beach and Tamarindo.

Waves for all levels of surfer from beginner to expert are possible, and it is important to know your limits as well as challenge yourself. Spend a bit of time studying a break before you paddle out and do your research to know if conditions are too heavy for you, or if rip currents are present.

Having a good travel guide with you is always handy as you probably don’t want to annoy everyone with 100 questions about where to go, what kind of surfboard to bring, what the bottom is like, if there are angry locals… you get it. There’s a really good guide book called Surfers Guide to Costa Rica and I suggest getting yourself a copy so that you can be a bit more “in the know” while you’re there. Or just keep reading - I will tell you almost everything I know.

I love this country, so I take great pleasure in holding your hand through the process of planning your surf trip and getting to know the various areas, breaks, methods of travel, accommodations and places to eat. I’m just about guessing that a Surf trip to Costa Rica is a welcome break from your mundane 9-5 lifestyle and I’m positive that you will probably want to move there by the end of your trip. First things first - prepare yourself to slow down - everything takes a little longer in Costa Rica, so reeeeeelax, you WILL get to your next destination eventually, and your food WILL make it to the table before you starve to death. Pura Vida!

Costa Rica offers a wide variety of vacation destinations for the nature lover, avid surfer, beach enthusiast or for those looking for an inexpensive tropical paradise to get away from it all. The country is focused on eco-tourism whether you stay in a low cost bungalow or a five star hotel, you can be confident that you are leaving the smallest carbon footprint possible.

The ARENAL VOLCANO NATIONAL PARK has Costa Rica’s most active volcano, which is also one of the world’s most active volcanoes. You can stay in certain hotels that are placed to give spectacular views of the volcano. Hiking trails over hardened lava take you through the rain forest to view the flora, fauna, and hot springs. You can also take an open-air gondola up to an observation deck for fantastic views. The MONTEVERDE CLOUD FOREST BIOLOGICAL RESERVE is one of the world’s most diverse wildlife refuges with mammals, birds, insects, and plants including orchid variations. The trails are well-maintained, and, since there are not many rugged sections, it is perfect for the whole family to hike through the cloud forest, past waterfalls, and see one or more of the five suspension bridges. One of those is 300 feet high! The Tropical Science Center runs this not-for-profit wonderland.

There are 27 national parks that are protecting the amazing flora and fauna including jaguar, tapirs, peccaries and ocelot. Costa Rica is considered the most bio-diverse region in the world with 12 key ecological zones and 25 percent of its land is protective parks and reserves. High in the Tilaran Mountain Range is the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. It is 90 percent virgin forest with 10,500 hectares of tropical rainforest and hundreds of mammals, birds, reptiles and the most orchid species in one place.

The OSA PENINSULA was declared by “National Geographic Magazine” as “one of the most biologically intense places on earth”. This nature wonderland has one of the tallest rain forests in the world and Central America’s largest expanse of lowland tropical rain forest. Drake Bay, discovered by Sir Francis Drake, is its most popular town.

TORTUGUERO NATIONAL PARK can only be reached by airplane or boat but is still one of Costa Rica’s most visited parks. The main feature is the nesting grounds for multitudes of turtles. Most visitors to the area spend 3 to 4 days exploring the river canals viewing the different species of wildlife in the area. Complete customize vacation packages are available for individual and small groups. Transportation around Costa Rica can be a challenge, especially if you rent a car or try taking the local bus system. It is recommended that visitors use an established tour operator to help arrange all the logistics and transportation options to get the most out of your vacation.

Planning a journey to Costa Rica can be challenging. Dealing with the differences in culture, language and belief requires the help of an specialists travel arranger. Reliable and dependable arrangements are necessary for a successful vacation. Learning how to surf employing a method that includes ocean awareness and safe practices in the water is a great idea. From catching your first wave, to developing your abilities, you’re going to get a thrilling chance to learn which will stick with you throughout all of your life. Wherever you decide to go, if there are waves, you’ll be able to surf.

You’ll discover significant health improvements once you undertake surfing you will probably have never considered. Surfing is among the most effective activities that you can do for your health and fitness, it is cardiovascular exercise so you feel great within and have more energy. You use all the muscles in your neck, biceps, back, thighs and chest so that you feel stronger and appear physically improved. Basically, surfing is probably the out you can have. It wont even seem like exercise since you will be having so much fun.

There are some guidelines you need to consider when learning to surf. Under no circumstances should you toss a surfboard within the water fin first, do it the opposite way round. While you ride the board, place weight on its front, putting it at the rear will cause anyone to fall.

Be sure you paddle with one arm after the other to attain constant pace, this way it’ll be less complicated to trap a wave. When taking a stand, centre your bodyweight over the stringer and don’t stand erect, alternatively, keep low in a position similar to a sumo wrestler.

Make sure the board is not too broad since this has an effect on your paddling. Keep in your mind, the larger boards are much easier to stand up on nonetheless they are tougher to handle. If you’ve skated or been snow-boarding before, chances are you’ll already have a few of the skills necessary to effectively surf by yourself, and you will probably have a higher possibility of standing upright earlier

Water activities are an exciting way to spend your time. There is nothing that can compare with the adrenaline rush from hitting the water and getting embroiled in the fun and excitement. A large number of aquatic sports are available for you to experience like deep sea diving, surfing, canoeing and more.

All sporting activities require you to possess a certain amount of safety equipment and protection. In the situation of water sports, if you want to protect yourself from the elements, you best wear a wetsuit. Wetsuits really are a water sport lovers best friend. This favourable little bit of rubber allows surfers to remain warm in chilly oceans worldwide.

They initially showed up through the early fifties and have advanced in recent times to turn into a crucial piece of clothing for many water activities. Not only do they help you stay warm, they are able to also shield you from skin abrasions while diving along with shielding you from the sun’s rays. Even though this isn’t regarded as their primary function, it is really an additional advantage.

Neoprene is the name of the material that insulates your suit. It is really a unique man made rubber comprised of countless air pockets. The neoprene lets water in to produce a thin layer that draws heat from your body and preserves it to keep you warm and prevent hypothermia. They can now be lightweight, very flexible and properly insulated. They embrace the body and form tightly around the throat, arms and ankles to prevent water entering. The overall rule would be the thicker the suit, the more heat it can give.

Wetsuits are fairly affordable and are usually used once the temperature of the water is between 10 and 25C. Thickness of wetsuits differ from 1mm to 10mm. A 1mm suit offers little or no warmth and it is normally regarded as a dive skin, instead of a wetsuit. Although the thicker suits provide more insulation it comes with the expense of your flexibility. It is advised to select your suit based on the time of year you intend to be out in the ocean.

Wetsuits can be purchased in various sizes and can be obtained for men, females and children. They are available in a variety of colours, the most frequent being black or blue. They also come in different styles from full cut, sleeveless and short-cut. Wetsuits are supreme surf gear for your water sport enjoyment, particularly wind surfing, jet skiing and even body boarding. You can find wetsuits for sale at all the major retailers or maybe you can obtain yours from an online surf shop.

Why not stop by the online surf shop today to see a great collection of wetsuits for sale . Ready for business twenty four hours a day, seven days a week.

Surfboards are assessed by different proportions: length, thickness, and width. The span of the surfboard will establish how effortlessly you catch the wave. The lengthier the board is, the less difficult it will be to trap the wave. The broader it really is, the more stability you will get out in the water. Lastly, the thickness of the board gives you float. The thicker it is actually, the more buoyant you’ll be. You can expect to encounter these dimensions calculated in inches and published around the underbelly on the board around the stringer by the tail.

Surfboards make surfing achievable. Should you be thinking of trying surfing. You must be prepared to purchase a very good and suitable surfboard. You shouldn’t choose board just for the sake of buying it. It is essential that you obtain a surfboard that is right for you. A perfect surfboard for one particular person is most likely not well suited for another because there is variance in physical sizing and amount of surfing ability.

Surfboards tend to be made from one or perhaps a selection of three elements: wood, fibreglass, and epoxy. Wood made boards were the very first surfboards ever used to ride the surf but have since become costly to produce and thus somewhat outdated. Most surfers have balsa wood boards suspended on their walls as collectors items. These are durable but heavy.

Surfboards are planed hulls for riding waves. Their background, growth, range of design, and the craftsmanship of those who condition and ride boards is worthy of a university degree. They’re major business and hugely collectable, practical, damageable manifestations of craft and appearance that enable mere mortals to approach genuine beauty. That could seem over-the-top, but ask any surfer and they’ll tell you they have seen the light.

Shaun Thomson is an ex- world champion. Shaun has been surfing since the nineteen sixties, he’s travelled the globe and won the World Pro Tour in 1977. He’s been engaged with surfing for plenty of time to see movements come, go, and come back again. That just about makes him an expert on everything surf. Surfing is an abundance of information to the newbie surfer and also a great history lesson for all.

Surfing is a favourite pastime all over the planet. The ocean calls to persons who adore the buzz of riding waves. Folks who enjoy to surf can devote hours in the sea without taking a break. Surfers frequently reside with roommates in modest apartments just so that they can maintain close proximity to the sea.

Why not stop by the online surf shop where there is a excellent selection of surfboards for sale . The Snow and Surf Store is open for business 24 hours a day, seven days in the week.

Located between the gulf of California and the Sea of Cortez, the Baja Peninsula is home to some of the most desirable surfing locations in the world. Viewed on a map, Baja juts out from southern California like a finger and extends from the American border down to Cabo San Lucas at the opposite end and is actually divided into two states, Baja California Sur in the south and Baja California Norte in the north. The wind from the Pacific Ocean plays a part in creating some of the most sought after waves any surfer could dream of riding, and there are numerous locations along the peninsula to surf.

Fifteen minutes from the border is Baja Malibu. The water here is generally a bit colder than the rest of the coast, but if you can brave the temperature you’ll be rewarded with some very potent waves - winter or summer. There is a campground located nearby (with hot showers) so you can make this an overnight trip and catch the waves at low tide. Generally less crowded than the beaches in southern California, Baja Malibu is a rewarding experience for the experienced surfer.

According to www.bajalife.com, San Miguel has some of Baja’s premier waves. San Miguel offers an amazing point break with long walls for a sustained tube ride, but it is recommended to wear boots as there is a rather rocky bottom to contend with - be aware before you paddle out. Due to it’s popularity, San Miguel is generally very crowded and some of the locals can be territorial at times, so be aware of your surroundings and be respectful of others. There is also a restaurant and bar available for when you want to kick back with some food and cerveza’s. Camping is also possible in San Miguel, for a small fee you can pitch a tent right on the beach if you choose. Don’t leave your board or gear in the open if you choose to camp.

Punta San Jose is a great location, for you can get great swells on either the south or west sides. Waves here vary according to tide but it is possible to experience an unusually long ride along a right point wave with multiple sections. There are beds of kelp which function to essentially scrub the waves, thus making this one of the cleaner spots to surf. The winds here generally tend to make the weather and waves a bit colder, it does require some getting used to! Camping is allowed by the local fisherman for a small fee and many will sell you fresh lobster right off the boat for an equally small fee. Boots are recommended for safety, as well as to keep your feet warm.

Located a few miles south of Rosarita Beach, Calafia is considered to be one of the great spots to surf that “no one” knows about. Fast, racing waves that reel on a big south and sheltered by surrounding cliffs is what to expect on a trip out there. The terrace of the Calafia Hotel is essentially what you’re surfing in front of and under as it is located at the tip of the take off zone. Calafia does not break often, so check the local weather reports before heading out to avoid disappointment. Boots should be worn at all times as both the terrain and the paddle out can be a sharp and a bit treacherous in some spots.

Regardless of which location you favor, US dollars are the accepted currency and insurance is available in the U.S. from any AAA office. For safety reasons and to avoid disappointment, be aware of current conditions in regard to both the weather and the waves before heading out and avoid rip currents wherever possible. It would also be wise to pack water and food as most of the spots are located off the highway and it could be some time before you can locate a restaurant after you’re done with the waves - and you will be hungry after an afternoon of surfing out in Baja!

Other than boards and wetsuits, most surfing equipment isn’t very expensive, and that’s one of the good things about buying gear when you’re first starting out. The three most important pieces of surfing equipment are your board, your clothing, and some quality wax to prevent you from sliding off.

Surfboard and wet suit pricing varies greatly however you don’t want to go cheap here. Remember, in most cases, you get what you pay for. If you believe surfing is going to become a long lasting passion, it’s really well worth spending a little bit more for top quality products. Wax can be bought inexpensively from surf shops, normally for under $10. Several of these shops will toss in the wax free of charge if you’re buying a surfboard or other more expensive items.

Choosing Your Surfboard. Your surfboard is going to be virtually the most essential item that you’ll want to research when considering surfing. There are different boards for various conditions as well and skill levels. The Malibu is a type of surfboard commonly used by beginners simply because its bigger, has thicker mals and is much is much easier and more stable to stand on. The most popular surfboard is the shortboard, aka thruster which is used to execute fast moves on waves and is about 5′8” to 6′10” long. The fish is a smaller version of the shortboard at about 4′8” and 6′0”. These board selections should have you covered when it comes to shopping for your surfboard.

Surfboard Fins You attach fins to the bottom of your surfboard which helps support your board on the waves. You can buy both detachable and fixed glassed fins.

Surf Wear If you’re planning on surfing year round and the water temps are too frigid for board shorts, then you’ll want a good wetsuit. Wetsuit engineering as improved their performance and comfort over the years. They’re now super light, super stretchy and there are several varieties that you can purchase without zips.

If you’ll be surfing in warm water, board shorts are a perfect alternative to wetsuits. Board shorts are made from lightweight fabric that dries quickly.

Leashes Surfboard leashes are used to affix the board to your leg, ensuring that after you fall off the board you won’t need to swim back to the beach to recover it.

Board Wax.Your feet will have greater traction on your board if you apply some good board wax.

Deck Grips for Your Board. You can also make your board less slippery by using deck grips instead of wax. Their adhesive backing attaches them permanently to your board.

Boardbags Boardbags are a must have if you want to keep your surfboard safe and ding free while your transporting or storing it. They come in three styles, sock, soft boardbag as well as a hard case.

Any surf shop will have a wide selection of different types of surfing equipment, and you’re also likely to see a lot of variety on the beach. Look into your options, ask some questions and watch other surfers. But the most important thing is to have fun while you’re surfing!

In order to see a fantastic range ofsurfboardsandsurfing equipmentyou should pay a visit In order to theSnow and Surf SIn order to re.

For a surfer, he would surely agree when I say that this sport is hard on the body. It’s like playing on an unstable surface with uncertain elements coming your way. You’re often battling sharp reefs or 5 knots current (at Nusa Dua) to make it out like most sports in Indonesia since they aren’t sports for the slight bicep or faint hearted. So how will you keep your body always on the go for the high demands of surfing? The answer might be yoga.

You stand facing at the ocean and step your left foot back, about one leg length behind. Your left foot pointed at 45 degree angle facing to the front and step it a few inches to the left. When you inhale, extend your right arm towards the front slowly, core should be kept strong, knee slightly bent and reaches your arm toward your knee, shin or if you are more open, towards your toes. Toes should be spread widely into the sand and rotate your hips and torso up toward the sky following with your left arm and reach it overhead and Stay here for a few deep inhales and exhales, then repeat on the opposite side. Benefit: It stretches the side body to allow for more reach when you paddle and also strengthens the inner legs and improves overall balance.

Yoga only improves flexibility as known by some people. What they have to know is that as the situation demands through Yoga, you can develop an intelligent body that can be loose and twisty or strong and centered. An intelligent body that can be loose and twisty or strong and centered as the situation demands can also be developed in yoga. The presence of mind to remain calm under pressure is also gained in yoga.

For at least five minutes in a quiet spot on the beach that you found give yourself time before hitting the waves. The bliss lies in the experience of the surfer not in the outcome of the surfing, keep that in mind. You could practice a few of the position before hitting the waves. Downward Dog

Your legs straighten slightly but not locking your knees while your hand and knees comes together. Spread your fingertips and send your hips away from your hands diagonally. Heels do not need to touch the sand and breathe and hold for about five counts while trying to find length in the harm string and spin as making an upside down V with your body. Benefits: Back body is lengthened to counter over development of frontal extension muscles from padding.

Triangle Pose

It is not really true what the beliefs are saying because you don’t have to be a vegetarian to learn yoga. When hippies and surfers searched soul connection on the beaches of Hawaii and California in the 1960’s surfing and the practice of Yoga are intrinsically linked since then. Compared to yogis turning inward to find peace, surfers seek their Zen in the outward art of riding waves, and that is their key difference. Will physical yoga be of any help with your surfing? “ABSOLUTELY”, says teacher of yoga, ecology and surfing at retreats in Bali, Mexico, and Costa Rica, Vancouver-based Eoin Finn.

Fascinated to know about Yoga Vancouver? If so better go through Yoga Vancouver now.

The adrenaline rush that kite surfing brings is maybe the reason for the growth of avid fans. And taking control of your board, maneuvering a kite, and taking advantage of the wind at the same time might be the factor that keeps enthusiast coming back for more. But it is quite a time travel when you trace the origins of this sport.

The history of kite surfing started way back in the 13th century. It was first used as a mode of going from one place to another. Also known as kite sailing, it makes use of the wind to move. Before boards, canoes were used, together with a sail, to take advantage of the wind’s movement and make their way across bodies of water or areas of land.

In the 18th century, the primitive form of kite surfing was changed by George Pocock when he used kites to move with the wind. And before, they do not only transport people, they are also able to move heavy and bulky objects, such as manmade vehicles. It is similar to the modern set-up since it also utilized four lines. This will enable the wind to increase your elevation and maintain in midair.

The sport was surprisingly mainly used on land, snow and ice, before it was exploited in water. The 1980’s kite surfing developers found out that it can be used on the water for extreme sporting. They adjusted the main blueprint to allow you to sail it again after your dive in the water.

Kite surfing was first popularized by two chumps, Manu and Laird Hamilton, when they started playing in the Hawaiian shores of Maui. And that became the start of the expansion of the extreme sport. Now, different organizations being put up, competitions being held, and materials being published just for it have fathomed a great part of shore lovers.
